“Criticism has no value if it does not point to a solution”
Richard L.Naran
Healthcare reform is bogging down in Congress while you and I pay the price. It all begins with the distribution of knowledge about what is going on. It’s all about you and I needing to be better informed to actively participate.
The Democrats townhall meetings What went wrong was a poor information release. A big media deal was made about the large showing of senior citizens who were outraged. This is similar to the Bush situation with his attempt at Social Security reform. I spent time visiting a Florida retirement community plus I talked with many retiree friends. What I heard was a repeated misunderstanding about how they would be affected. One retired friend who still lives in the neighborhood he raised his family couldn’t understand their outrage. That’s not to say he didn’t take the position of as long as the measured a passed through as presented the current seniors were fine. He would add, the worry is nothing goes through Congress without being subject to change and that was the real concern. The current townhall meetings reflected that same backlash as the Bush measure .
The red light The Democrats learned we the people are not properly informed. What people don’t understand they reject. I am not coming out for or against the Obama healthcare reform package. I am coming out with a plea to you to speak out and seek to be better informed. We all have access to the internet. Why isn’t the plan being presented online? Of course, it is too large and it would have to be broken up into sections. The cost of doing a virtual series of webinars online would be drastically be cheaper than staging townhall meetings. You don’t need a professional grade camera. By spanning it out over the free video hosting services you’ve cut out much of the cost. Then make them available for $8 which includes shipping and handling through only select fulfillment and distribution resource companies and the whole process will have paid for itself. Plus seniors would be covered to received it free. The American society is moving away from the traditional forms of information channels. It’s time our government fully invests itself in going with the flow. As it is now, it will reduce a much of the cost outlay and time incurred by using the older methods.
The formula Easy enough it is already in place. Breakdown the videos to 45 minute segments 5 on a disk. The 45 minutes is base on the learning model educational systems use. The 5 segments are so as not to overwhelm people especially seniors. Space out three disks sets a week. Include 3 PDF transcripts on the dvd, this is extremely important. One PDF would be with bullet points to follow along with while watching and include referenced pages on the other being a full transcript. The third would be the copies of the actual portions of the plan only addressed on that particular dvd. As for the incurred start up cost over half was invested already by the townhall meetings preparation. Now, those expenses will not be wasted but in fact turned into a positive investment.
Is this the complete solution? Just the same as any initial healthcare reform plan, the answer is no. It has it’s drawbacks. Despite what people believe there are Americans without computer and without dvd access. Auxilary funding can be underwritten by movie trailers promos and 15 second non-medical or politically connected advertising one each per video. I would think TV spots would be a great resource. In fact the whole process has the ability to be completely funded without direct government outlay. I prefer using the AipTek HD camera to the Flip Video for filming but that’s my preference. The point is reducing the cost should speed the process along. I use WildForm’s Flair most use Camstasia. I am willing to bet the government has Microsoft Office at their fingertips and PowerPoint Presentations are second nature. The options are unlimited and a fraction of past cost.
Is there precedence for this? In a way, yes there is. President Kennedy was the first President to use be credited with using the premier technology of his time as a tool. It was called television. The candidates of the last Presidential election moved to the internet. My plan employs the techniques and technology used by start up Internet Marketers. Done right it can be fully funded and have money left over to put forward toward future info campaigns. As with Kennedy and television, this is another step toward creating a more informed society. A residual effect of my proposal is that it lays the foundation to lower a large government expenditure in creating and distributing informational products.
